In use

This is the case for a family's originals: birth certificates, titles, a will, the passports. An accordion folder inside lifts out with everything sorted. The shell shrugs off a knock, and the handle makes it a one-hand carry at 5.55 lb.

Inside 15.3 x 11.8 inLetter lies flatLegal lies flatSolid outline: a letter sheet, 11 x 8.5 in. Dashed outline: a legal sheet, 14 x 8.5 in.

Check before you buy

  • You keep legal-size documents.
  • A shelf or cabinet has 17 x 13 in of clear space.
  • You prefer a combination to a key.

Pick another one if

It is wide. Check that 16.7 x 13 in fits your shelf or safe. The depth of 3.74 in inside is less than our 12-layer box, so bulky items may not fit. If you file in hanging folders, a file box is the better tool.

Great waterproof and fireproof document holder that is "Grab-and-Go"

I searched for months for a waterproof and fireproof document protector that was sturdy and portable. I really like this DocuSafe container, as it is large enough to hold all of my important documents and seems sturdy enough to be a "Grab-and-Go" in the event of a need for rapid evacuation or if there was a fire with subsequent water damage post fire. I like the briefcase type tote and the flexibility to customize each of the enclosed accordian files. For the price and quality, I thought this was a good value. Although I still would like to have an actual metal safe for my papers, I now have peace of mind that my papers are protected from Fire and Water, organized, and that I can bring my important papers with me, if needed. I don't think the locking mechanism that is included is very useful because it seems somewhat flimsy, but it would be easy to add a more robust lock instead.

Nice case. Plenty of room. Poor locking mechanism

Very nice. I can place my coin collection folder in it perfectly. Like others, I believe the locking system is poor quality. However, ANYTHING with a zippered closure is not secure. You can just break the zipper pulls and you're in. However, I was not looking for security. The fire protection is what I purchased it for.

    Great case for the money.

I really like this box. It has many compartments for all your important documents. The lock works, and it is not too heavy for elderly people to use. I don't know how fireproof it is, and I hope I never find out, but for the price it is a good deal!

    This Document Box is Excellent.

This Document Box is Excellent. It is large enough to hold portfolio binders, includes slots for business/credit cards, and more. With all the areas of pockets and an accordion file, you can skip the full-size file cabinet.
